GREAT LAKES CHAPTER VOLVO CLUB OF AMERICA

JULY, 2011 NEWSLETTER

Happy Summer!  It seems like only yesterday it was snowing and now it is in the 90's.

Join us on the 16th of July at 12:00 Noon the Gilmore Car Museum for our July membership meeting.  Bring a picnic lunch or eat at the diner.  We will have a brief meeting then tour the museum on your own.  This is a great opportunity to see what is new at the Gilmore (I’ll bet you are surprised) and visit what you didn’t see the last time.  Bring your wife / husband, bring your kids, bring your old / new Volvo but most importantly, bring yourself!!  Several of us have been doing Volvo related things this summer (David Irvine and I visited with Irv Gordon in Vicksburg, MI in early June, then Irv and David attended the Greenfield Village Motor Muster.  My wife and I, as well as Dick and Sue Milleson attended the VCOA National meet in Lindsborg KS. You’ve never seen a hailstorm like the one we saw in Kansas!)

I am sure many of you have had adventures in your Volvos, too so come and share your stories.  You will not find a friendlier group of people than those involved with our Chapter of the Volvo Club of America.

In 2006, when David and I formed the Chapter, it was with a couple of specific goals in mind.  One of those was to encourage a core group of enthusiasts who would be able to help nurture the chapter and make it strong.  Another was to host a National Volvo Club of America (VCOA) Event.  We have achieved the goals and dreams we shared.  It is time to let someone else share their goals and dreams for the club.  At the end of 2011, David and I will both resign from our leadership roles with the Great Lakes Chapter.  It is now time for others to step up and take the club forward.  Both of us will continue to be a part of the club as active members, just not as leaders.  We will be here through the end of the year to help with a transition.  We will talk about this at the meeting at the Gilmore on the 16th.  This is a great way for our club to continue to expand and grow.

See you at the Gilmore on the 16th!
