Volvo Great Lakes Chapter – Newsletter, July 2009
A
handful of members attended the Motor Muster at Greenfield Village on July 21st-22nd.
If you have not been to the motor muster, the Village in Dearborn is a GREAT
place to show your car, get free passes for the weekend to the museum/village,
and see a lot of other auto enthusiasts who are interested in sharing their
hobby.

In
addition, Irv Gordon attended the Muster on Saturday. In addition, his ’66 1800
S was featured in the European GT category at the Edsel Ford House on
Sunday, for the “Eyes on Design” show in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Fellow
club member Gary Hershoren showed one of his Jags as well. Both gentlemen got
press for their cars and lots of questions from a very enthusiastic group. The
grounds were beautiful and the examples of cars were incredible (some of them
were at the motor muster on Saturday as well). The tour of the house, on
the shores of Lake St. Clair, gave a glimpse into the Ford Family, the history
of their family. and their many interests which included famous works of art.
Many of the originals have been donated to the Detroit Institute of Arts, and
reproductions have been placed in the house.

July
is a quiet month, with the exception of the Ontario show at Ilderton, near
London, Ontario which is TOMORROW, Sunday the 26th of July. A few members
will be there for that show. It is also an incredible show, with almost 175
fine examples of classic and contemporary Volvo’s showing up. Dust off your
passport and go East, young man (or woman).

if
any of you would like to rendezvous at the Gilmore for a Wednesday night Cruise
in, come by on August 26th. Be sure to check out the coverage in the
most recent issue of Rolling (July/August, 2009) for some photo coverage of our
April Museum Crawl in Auburn, Indiana. Our next club meeting will be in
September, on the third Tuesday of the month at Clara’s in East Lansing.
Come help us plan for our 3rth Volvo’s at the Gilmore next year. Hope to
see you there!
Respectfully,
David
